Astral builds uv, ruff, and ty — tools focused on improving the experience of writing and running Python. As the capabilities of programming agents grow, our team has been reflecting on the qualities we’ve emphasized in our tools and whether they are still relevant when the consumer is not human. What makes a tool ergonomic for agents? Where is human interaction still essential? How should our focus change? Does building developer tooling still matter? Join us in exploring these questions in this rapidly changing landscape.

Zanie is passionate about empowering developers and scientists through powerful, friendly tooling. They have a background in computational neuroscience and bioinformatics, but now they build open source tools for Python in Rust at Astral. They live in Minneapolis with a very cute dog named Basho, and their (also very cute) partner, Ciara.
