One Way to Do It
The history of AI is, in large part, the history of making things feel like Python. From symbolic deep learning to workflow automation to agents and MCP, every major wave followed the same arc: something powerful shows up, someone wraps it so you can just write Python, and then everyone acts surprised when it takes over. This talk traces that pattern through twenty years and argues that understanding it is the key to building what comes next.

Jeremiah Lowin is the founder and CEO of Prefect, where he redefined how the world handles data orchestration. A Harvard-educated statistician, Lowin spent years managing complex risk and data systems for King Street Capital before moving into the founder's seat. He is a heavyweight in the AI community; his creation, FastMCP, was so impactful it was adopted as the official Python SDK by Anthropic for the Model Context Protocol. A founding member of Apache Airflow and a strategic advisor to Spotify, Lowin remains a pivotal figure in bridging the gap between elite engineering and real-world AI applications.
